To quote one of our volunteers:
“I am very thankful for having the opportunity to work with the people of Mada Clinics
and experience rural medicine at first hand.”
Mada Clinics is looking for volunteers who wish to come to Madagascar to make a difference
to the people who live there. We welcome people who wish to spend time in a small
Malagasy village, live a simple lifestyle, eat simple food, sleep in simple huts
and share a common goal with the people who work at Mada Clinics - and help the local
people in whatever way they can.
Whilst we welcome volunteers with medical experience, anyone who is willing to devote
time and energy to the local people will be rewarded with unforgettable memories
and knowing that they will have contributed to improving the lives of the local villagers.
All volunteers stay in individual huts made locally from local materials
- We have a maximum of 4/5 volunteers in the village at any one time - to ensure that
all volunteers are kept busy!
- We have five huts with both single and double accommodation - all with mosquito nets
- All meals are provided by our cook and we eat in a communal dinning room
- Volunteers at other local schools will stay in purpose built huts and can cook for
themselves or share food with local families
Volunteers’ donations are used for our clinics and school - to pay our staff and
for medications
- We ask for donations of $250/£150 per week for the first two weeks, and for longer
stays, $200/£125 per week.
- After two months, volunteers who are able to stay longer are treated as joining the
team and pay only a contribution of $100/£60 per week towards their food and local
travel expenses.
- Our volunteers who teach at the schools make a smaller donation, as they are responsible
for their own food and in some cases accommodation.
We can place volunteers in rural villages or in small local towns - or a combination
- Maventibao is our main village where we have a our base - consisting of a clinic
and school, as well as volunteer huts
- Aboangamamy is another rural village where we will be placing volunteers for the
first time in 2012 to help in the clinic
- Anivarano is a small rural town with a basic hospital, where volunteers can work
alongside the local Doctor and Midwife
- Mahasmaisa is next door to Ankarana National Reserve, and our volunteers help at
the local primary school and teach the Park Guides either English or French
